Journey to Inspiration
For most of my hours, I am perplexed with the fact that whether I should write or just wait for ideas to hit me. I’m intrigued by the thought that if I procrastinate, I might find something worth expressing. Well, that is what I used to believe and they say that Procrastination is the mother of creativity! (at least in the context of creativity)
Most of my days are spent loitering around for ideas and motivation. And unbeknownst to me, they take me to different places. I find myself reading the comic section of the International Herald Tribune with hopes to inculcate humor in my work. Unfortunately, attention is not my strongest game and I’m easily swayed by the Sports and business section. In a fit of rage, I tear the newspaper and take a much-deserved nap.
There are days when I drift aimlessly on the crowded streets and gulleys of Kathmandu. My constant companion in this chaos is my trusty earphones. With music blaring on the background, I picture myself as the main actor in this movie called life. The urban commute is home to people of all sorts and I’m greeted by travelers, businessmen, lovers, and some jaywalkers. Each of them seems to be lost in their bubble. Observation leads me to believe that behind their step, motivation is the factor. The lovers walk with the purpose to be with each other, the traveler walks with an aspiration to explore and here I walk with hopes to find what I am looking for. Sadly, I could find none so once again, I head back home.
Day 3 on the quest of motivation takes me to the country roads on my beloved two-wheeler. The drive is nostalgic and at times, déjà vu hits me. For how long am I going to meander the same trails in search of something that’s never going to appear here? Nevertheless, I trod ahead. The picture of green hills, soothing rivers, and faraway mountains fill my gallery and I feel a sense of camaraderie with these elements of nature. Somewhere deep emotion of longness is provoked but the whispering winds of the river banks drive them away. The roads are long and treacherous but I walk with a happy heart knowing where to look.
The journey for inspiration has taken me various places but the one place where it did not take me was withing myself. Inspiration does not always have to be extrinsic, it can be intrinsic as well. It is not necessary to wait for ideas to hit you, just do your thing and let them come to you. As I place the concluding piece in this article, I hope that this article acts as a beacon of hope for those in need of purpose.
